To work with the community to keep families from becoming involved with Child Protective Services by helping to strengthen families so they can provide a safe and nurturing home for their children.
At the Neighborhood Place, a Family Success Coach can help you build a stronger and happier home by offering:

• Ideas about parenting
• Ways to deal with strong emotions
• Suggestions of places to go for more help
• Fun ways to learn, grow, and share
• Get involved with the neighborhood place of
• Come in and visit us
• Ask the Family Success Coach to visit your home
• Join a Support Group
• Tell a friend or neighbor about this program
• Ask to “adopt a family”
• Help reduce child abuse and neglect by helping a neighbor
• Become a volunteer
Among those with case records, twenty-seven percent of people served by the Neighborhood Place of Central Kalihi in 2007-2008 were Native Hawaiian. Walk-ins are encouraged, and a family success coach does home visits. Although they are housed in the Kuhio Park Terrace Family Center managed by PACT, the Neighborhood Place of Central Kalihi serves all of Kalihi, and other neighborhoods between Middle Street to Punchbowl. Coaches share ideas about topics such as parenting and child development, stress and anger management, and problem solving. In addition to parenting class and groups, a special support group has been created to deal with substance abuse issues.
