Neighborhood Place of Wailuku
In 2003, community members of the Partnership for Hawaii's Keiki in Wailuku advocated for a Neighborhood Place on Maui. Through grants from the Blueprint For Change, HCF- Mo' Betta Together, Hawai'i Children's Trust Fund, and The Fred Baldwin Memorial Fund, our vision of the Neighborhood Place of Wailuku (NPW) became a reality and enabled us to open our doors to our families in April 2004.
The purpose of the NPW is:
To promote a safe, nurturing and educational environment for children, youth and families as the foundation of our community. Safe meaning: free of environmental, physical or emotional harm.
To prevent child abuse & neglect by helping families recognize and build upon their own strengths.
To create a system where support services for families are high-quality, affordable, appropriate, coordinated, culturally- sensitive and accessible.
To use a "talk story" and culturally appropriate approach in making connections with the families and individuals it serves.
